The Punch brand was first registered in 1840 by a German named Stockmann and named for the European marionette show character, Mr.Punch. The magazine featuring a cigar smoking jester, was created separately a year later, but was soon adopted on the cigar packaging. The brand was quickly successful throughout the world and especially in Great Britain. The Castro revolution led to a national cigar industry, which still manufactures the Cuban Punch brand, but led Fernando Palicio to flee to Florida with his product. After selling his brands, the cigars we enjoy today, are produced in Honduras for GCS.
